Buzzworthy Eco-Paradise: Unveiling London's Greenest Gem

INTRO:

In the heart of bustling London lies a haven, a hotel redefining sustainability in style: The Corner London City. This establishment, formerly known as Qbic, emerged from the ashes of a derelict office block, reborn into an eco-conscious paradise. Picture this: a cocktail of architectural transformations creating an open, inviting space coupled with an earnest dedication to sustainability, giving this locale its vibrant, green heart.

A Sustainable Metamorphosis:

Last autumn marked the grand entrance of The Corner into the Aldgate district, causing ripples in an area not particularly known for its green initiatives. As I waltzed in with my sister on a chilly Friday afternoon, I was immediately struck by the contrast to the norm. No tedious wait in a cluttered lobby; instead, a seamless self-check-in unfolded in what can only be described as an all-in-one haven—a fusion of a bar, restaurant, work hub, lounge, and games room, adorned with an assortment of thriving houseplants, serving as nature's delightful punctuation marks in the space. The ambiance beckoned us to linger, eschewing an immediate retreat to our room. Instead, we found ourselves engrossed in conversations—one with the amiable barman and another with the maestro behind the delectable dishes, head chef Stephen Tims. My curiosity piqued about the hotel's commitment to green living, especially after learning that Stephen concocted cocktails using Christmas leftovers in a bid to combat food wastage. His dedication extends further, sourcing a majority of the menu's meat, fish, and veggies from Billingsgate Market, with a staggering 98 percent of the menu crafted in-house. The kitchen's unsalvageable food is composted, nurturing a burgeoning family of banana plants and other green companions.

Green Guardians and Leafy Visions:

Behind the scenes, the hotel's verdant paradise is tended by none other than the nature-loving French manager, Mohamed Mezaga. With a passion for plants that rivals an adventurer seeking rare species in the wilds of Madagascar, Mohamed has a knack for greenery that's beyond compare. Donning a naturally fitting dark green shirt, he shares anecdotes of his former gardener seeking advice on plant care, reflecting his deep affinity for nurturing nature.

Taking pride in expanding what he dubs the "green tribe," Mohamed has grand plans for the hotel's botanical repertoire. He's set to introduce beehives atop the hotel's rooftop, along with 250 flora varieties to satiate the bees. Anticipate the sweet rewards of home-harvested honey flavoring future menus and cocktails, straight from the buzzing residents of this eco-friendly abode. In the heart of London, where the buzz of city life resonates, The Corner stands as a testament to harmonizing sustainability with luxurious hospitality. It's not just a hotel; it's a living, breathing celebration of green living and a thriving ecosystem, where every element intertwines to create an unforgettable experience. Through innovative culinary endeavors, a dedication to minimizing waste, and a commitment to nurturing nature within its walls, The Corner proves that sustainability and elegance can go hand in hand. It's an invitation to indulge not only in comfort and luxury but also in the shared responsibility to cherish and preserve our planet. So, next time you visit, don't just be a guest; become a part of The Corner's green narrative, one leafy step at a time.
